Had it all

At the start

The newest addition to our regatta schedule, the Westpoint Regatta, proved to be a keeper.  This long distance race is my new favorite long distance race in San Francisco.  It runs from Treasure Island up to Angel Island then around Alcatraz under the Bay bridge and then all the way south to our home port of Redwood City.  28 miles in all.  Great views, big open areas to sail in, lots of tactical choices to make and a big party at the finish.  It has it all!

This years race we entered four boats, got our own start ( at the back of the pack of lead sleds ) and blasted around a breezy San Francisco Central Bay before dropping into the tricky light winds of the South Bay.  Good wind forecasting is a must for this one.  Holes are tough things to deal with and there were a couple of big ones in the second half of the race.  Good news, it brings us together and makes for some interesting racing.

Add this to you MUST DO list next year.
