Bay Area F18 sailors gathered at San Francisco Yacht Club in Tiberon, CA on Saturday, January 11th for dinner and a meeting to discuss the fleet participation in bay area and regional races, as well as local fleet events. There was a good turnout of twelve sailors eager for the season, as well as Charles Froeb’s hand-picked wine selections and stories from our special guests. Nacra 17 Olympic Teams and the China SailGP team, to speak about holding a fleet tuning and skills clinic in the spring. Stay tuned for more information on where and when that will be happening. Patrick Muglia, who crewed for Pete Melvin in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and works in the advanced composites industry, joined us and told some great stories from that campaign. In attendance was James Melvin, Pete’s son, who learned a few new stories about his Dad, including mast material and weight innovations that resulted in some stricter regs for the Tornados post Olympics. We’re going to try and get a static display of an F18 at St. Francis YC with contact information for people to get in touch with the fleet.
