Places to Buy Stuff

  • Annapolis Performance Sailing — a chandlery like no other, with very helpful staff.  If they don't stock what you're looking for, they can usually order it quickly.
  • Svendsen's Boat Works — local chandlery in Alameda with much better inventory than West Marine
  • Home Depot — If you lose a $40 pair of gloves, try a $4 pair of work gloves with latex or nitrile palms.
  • Rooster Sailing — U.K. makers of excellent technical clothing that's not available through retailers. Great service; they should get more attention in the U.S.

Rules

  • ISAF's Racing Rules of Sailing — straight from the source
  • UK-Halsey Sailing Rules Quizzes — very well-executed series of online quizzes that present you with a Flash-animated race situation where you pretend to be the jury. Access to answers requires you to subscribe to the loft's email newsletters, but is otherwise free.
  • North U. — North Sails in conjunction with US Sailing hosts a circuit of all-day seminars, one of which focuses on rules. Not free, but taught by real experts.
